Service & spares

We keep old fans running

Bearings, belts, shafts, impellers and motor frames for every fan we have built since 1998. The oldest unit still on our maintenance list was installed in 1981 and is on its fourth set of bearings.

Spares

A part number, not a capital request

The industry sells a fan on a fifteen-year design life and obsoletes the spares at ten. That leaves an estates team with a sound casing, a dead bearing and a quotation for a new unit plus the builders’ work to get it into a plant room that was sealed up around it.

We hold consumables and rotating parts for every fan built here since 1998. Where a bearing type has genuinely left production we hold the drawing and the machining record, so a housing can be made rather than the fan condemned. Next-day despatch on anything in stock ordered before 2pm.

You do not need a service contract to buy a part. Give us the serial number off the nameplate — or a photograph of it, which is usually easier at the top of a ladder.

Why we do this, including the commercial argument against it

What we come out for

Four things, priced up front

All four are quoted as a fixed price per visit including travel from Rotherham. No day rates that expand.

  • Planned maintenance

Annual or six-monthly. Bearing condition by vibration signature, belt and pulley wear, impeller cleanliness, guard and interlock function, and a measured duty check where a test point exists. Report inside three working days, with a photograph of anything we flag.

  • In-situ balancing

An impeller that has picked up deposit unevenly can usually be balanced in place rather than removed. We carry a two-plane balancer and trim weights, and we will tell you honestly when the deposit is bad enough that cleaning is the real answer.

  • Re-rating and pitch adjustment

Buildings change use. Where an axial fan is now oversized we can take pitch out and cut the absorbed power, which on a 22 kW unit running continuously has paid for the visit inside four months more than once.

  • Breakdown attendance

Same-day within South and West Yorkshire, next working day nationally. We will ask you for the nameplate and a description of the noise before we set off, because roughly one call in five is solved on the phone.

“Rang them about a 2003 theatre extract fan expecting to be told it was obsolete. Got a part number in eleven minutes and the bearing the next morning. The fan is still in.”

Send us the duty and we will send back a curve

Volume, static pressure, air temperature and what is in it. If you only have two of those, ring us and we will work out the rest.
